2 Studies Show How a Low-Carb Diabetic Diet Can Reverse Diabetes
Anyone suffering with type-2 diabetes could reverse their diabetes by following a low-carb (or carb-free) diabetic diet.
Misconceptions surrounding the causes of diabetes & the willingness of diabetics to accept their fate of having to live with this disease (and taking medication for the rest of their lives) is so unnecessary when research has shown that type-2 diabetes can be reversed by following a diet for diabetics.
Below are 2 studies which provide all the evidence needed to show that diabetics are able to reverse their diabetes & in some cases were able to either reduce or totally ditch their medication for good.
1. Results From This Clinical Trial Is Proof That Diet Can Beat Diabetes
This study published in the Journal Of Clinical Lipidology shows that 63% of diabetics on a low-carb diabetic diet, were able to significantly reduce their medication (or come off their medication totally), as well as lose weight, after just 70 days into the trial.
So diabetes sufferers should remember that their dietary habits & food choices will play a powerful part in preventing and reversing their diabetes.
Interestingly, in another medical study (Ref: Mark Hyman, MD) it was revealed that by drastically changing your diet to resemble a “diet for diabetics”, it reversed most features of diabetes within one week and all features by eight weeks which is more powerful than any drug known to modern science in treating diabetes.
2. Case Study Shows Diabetes Can Be Reversed With a Diabetic Diet
It was reported on the diabetes.co.uk website that Craig Thomson, a young man from Edinburgh, who had been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes has managed to reverse it completely by eating a LCHF diet.
- After initially being put on medication to manage his condition, he researched his condition thoroughly to understand how he could cope with it better.
- The results of his research indicated that a LCHF (Low-Carb, High-Fat) diet would be the best course of action in order to reduce the amount of insulin required by his body, which would lead to a stabilizing of his blood sugar levels & an easing of his insulin resistance.
- Craig’s next course of action was to choose the diet he was going to follow & after looking at different diets he chose to go on the LCHF Paleo diet.
- Since eating according to the Paleo diet Craig has not only shed a significant amount of weight, but he has managed to reduce his blood sugar levels to the extent that he’s been able to come off all his diabetes medications.
To all type 2 diabetes sufferers Craig’s story is so inspiring as it shows that is possible it is to reverse diabetes by following a diabetic diet such as a LCHF Paleo diet.

Reversing Diabetes Naturally
So, reversing type 2 diabetes naturally (adult-onset diabetes) through diet and exercise seems too good to be true, or is it?
One thing that is absolutely true is that your lifestyle affects your health in one way or another, however it is totally possible to repair insulin function and reverse type 2 diabetes.
Furthermore, reversing your diabetes can be made possible by improving your dietary habits by following a diet for diabetics and changing your sedentary lifestyle for a more active one, you could become less dependent on medication and eventually not require it any longer for your diabetes.
In fact by following this scientifically proven, life-changing program diabetics can control blood sugar three times more effectively with a diabetic specific diet and reduce, or even eliminate, their medications as well as reduce the risk of diabetes complications such as worsening eyesight and heart & kidney problems.
If you have weight or blood sugar issues consider them warning signs of this dreadful disease
What Constitutes a Healthy Diabetic Diet That Could Reverse Diabetes
Basically to help you start the process of reversing diabetes, a healthy diet would include the following which is very similar to following a Paleo diet or the Tim Noakes low-carb diet;
- Cutting out foods that contain sugar
- Eating smaller portions, spread out over the day
- Restricting your carbohydrate intake & cut out all simple carbs & processed foods
- Eat a several servings of vegetables & some fruit daily – be careful of consuming too much fruit, especially bananas as they contain sugar.
- Limit or cut out your consumption of alcohol
- Cut out salt
If you are overweight, which is common with diabetics or those with type 2 diabetes, the first step is to lose that extra weight which will make it easier to control your blood sugar levels.
This sounds easy enough but will require a lifestyle change which will also take a major commitment from you to making this a permanent one but it can be done mainly by changing your diet by making the right food choices.
If you are pre-diabetic or suffering with type 2 diabetes, just remember that diabetes is not a one-way street – it can be cured…
If you do not think you can commit to improving your diet then you just have to get used to being overweight, unhealthy and living with diabetes – a disease which is invariably fatal if not reversed in good time.
So to arrest or even reverse the diabetic process, which will only worsen with time if it goes unchecked, experts recommend changing your dietary habits by cutting out all simple carbs & junk food combined with an increase in activity by doing up to 30 minutes of exercise or brisk walking every day.
What Does It Mean To Reverse Your Diabetes?
Reversing your diabetes does not necessarily mean that you will get your body to the state that it was in before you ever had diabetes although you could depending on how long you have been living with it and how severe it is.
But one thing is for certain, and that is that you can reduce the severity of your diabetes to the extent that you may no longer require any medication to live with it.

My fiance is type 2 diabetic and i want to help him to eat right
Hi Anneke
There is increasingly more evidence coming to light showing that by eating a specific diabetic type diet could help type-2 diabetes patients reverse their diabetic symptoms.
The extent to which it can be reversed depends on factors such as how long your fiance has been a diabetic sufferer, how severe it is & with his genetics also playing a role.
However, if he is overweight, losing that excess weight should help him control his blood sugar levels better.
Also reversing diabetes doesn’t necessarily mean that it will be as though he’s never had it, but rather that he’ll be able to reduce his medication & possibly come off it totally – but maintaining a healthy diabetic diet will be something he will always have to follow (which isn’t a bad thing).
Hope this helps….

Thanking you in advance.
Brionni Meyer
Hi Brionni
As a diabetic I would recommend you consult with your health practitioner for advice prior to embarking on a new diet, however Prof Tim Noakes attributes the Banting diet as one of the main factors in him managing to control his type-2 diabetes.
For more information on controlling (or reversing) your diabetes with the right diabetic diet go to the link below;

Hope this helps & be aware that there are many success stories out there of people who have managed to completely get off their diabetes medication just by following a healthy diabetic diet.
Good day,
I’m not diabetic or see any signs, can I go on this diet?
Hi Sindy
This diet is not only for diabetics although in Tim Noakes’ case it helped him “reverse” his diabetes.
It’s really just a healthy way of eating & avoiding all the sugar laden, processed food that causes weight gain & disease.
If you have any health issues you really should consult a dietician or medical professional before going on a different eating plan.
